FAQ: Owl’s Clinical Measures Feature

Have you tried our new Clinical Measures feature yet?

We strive every day to make it easier for you to run your practice. While Owl Practice started as one of the most fully-featured practice management systems available, we’re continuing to get even better!

One feature we’ve recently added to the Premium version of Owl has become a hit among our user base: Clinical Measures. We receive a lot of questions about this feature, so we put together this brief FAQ to give you an overview of what you can expect.

Q: What are Clinical Measures?

Clinical measures are standardized psychological questionnaires containing quantified questions that can be tracked and analyzed over time.

There are dozens of clinical measures available, and Owl has added some of the most commonly used into our platform.

Q: How Can Clinical Measures Help My Practice?

One of the most important parts of effective mental health care is the ability to measure client outcomes. Seeing progress can help clients move forward with their treatment and encourage them to continue with empirically validated treatment modalities. By using Clinical Measures, they can actually see how they’ve been progressing over time.

The Clinical Measures feature also gives the clinician valuable information about how a client is progressing with specific treatments, or if they should try other modalities.

Q: Where Can I Find the Clinical Measures List?

Clinical Measures have been incorporated into all Premium Owl accounts. Simply go to “Manage” and then to “Measures” to see the 27 currently-available clinical measures.

You can activate the Measures you wish your practice to use and de-activate to clear the ones that you won’t be using, so the list you use will be more concise for your needs.

Q: How Do Clinical Measures Work with my Clients?

You can send Measures to your clients in two ways.

From the “Measures” menu, you can send out your choice of clinical measures to clients in your Owl database. Simply click the “Send” button that appears in the green banner at the top of the page. You will be prompted to search for the client you wish to send a measure to.

You can also send a measure directly from a client’s profile. Open their profile and select “Send Measures” at the bottom of the menu.

Once you’ve clicked “Sent,” a new menu will appear. You choose the desired client, select the items you wish to send them, edit the default email address, and click the “Send Measure” button.

Any Clinical Measures sent out will have a response tracker that shows how many times a measure has been sent out and how many of those sent measures have been completed by clients.

Q: What Will Clients Receive?

When you send a client a Clinical Measure, they will receive an email informing them that you’ve assigned a Clinical Measure for them to complete. They can then complete the entire questionnaire from within their browser.

After they’ve completed the Measure, you can review it within their client profile.

Q: How Do I Track Progress?

In the “Measures” section of Owl, you will find the “Overview” tab. This section is where you can review your clients’ scores over time. If they regularly fill out a measure once a month, you will be able to compare how their answers have changed, Measure to Measure.

Q: Are There Reminders for Clients to Fill Out Measures?

Absolutely!

Clients’ lives can get in the way of completing a questionnaire, even one that doesn’t take too much time to complete. Thankfully, you can send them a reminder from within the “Measures” section. They will receive a gentle reminder that you’ve assigned them a Measure and that they need to complete it.
